Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives: The When, Why and How of Collaboration for Smallholder Resilience

Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives: The When, Why and How of Collaboration for Smallholder Resilience

Time: Saturday, 9:45 am to 11:15 am

Panelists:

Angela Hansen, Senior strategist in the field of agriculture and food security

Key Words: Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives, SDG 17, Smallholder Farmers, Climate Change, Resilience, Africa

Summary:
The proposal is to explore the role of Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives in increasing resilience of smallholder farmers, predominantly in Africa. The presenter will define these initiatives, provide examples of them, explore when they are effective, discuss why they are needed and illustrate how they are formed. Looking specifically at MSIs addressing climate change and resilience will then allow for rich exploration of case studies.

Following the presentation, and depending on time available, a facilitated mini-workshop could be developed to draw in audience members, who will presumably represent a broad set of stakeholder types. Stakeholders could either share their experiences working in collaboration with others or roll-up sleeves to brainstorm and design solutions to commonly faced collaboration challenges.
