About this archive

What this site is, who maintains it and how it relates to the earlier food systems symposium website.

The Food Systems Symposium Archive is an independent, non-commercial reading room about how food is grown, moved, sold, eaten and wasted. Between roughly 2013 and 2019 this web address hosted the pages of an annual, student-organised food systems symposium that brought together farmers, researchers, lawyers, chefs and organisers for a weekend of panels and workshops.

That event is no longer running, and the original organisers are not involved with this site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for any university, school or the former organising committee. Names of past events are mentioned only as historical context.

What you will find here

  • Symposium history — a summary of the themes the gatherings explored, rewritten in our own words.
  • Essays and explainers — plain-language pieces on food policy, regenerative farming, food law, cold-chain and food waste, urban growing and food justice.
  • Reading guides — how to approach a topic if you are a student, a local organiser or a small food business.

Editorial approach

Everything is written for this archive. We aim for accuracy over hype, link sparingly and only to primary or public-interest sources, and we do not accept paid placements. If you spot an error, the best way to tell us is through the contact page.
